SYTYCD Season 6 Ep24 - The Grand Finale
December 16, 2009

LIVE BLOG - The 6th season of So You Think You Can Dance concludes tonight as America's favorite dancer will be crowned.

The show starts off with a Top 20 group routine, choreographed by Australia's Kelley Abbey.

There are six judges behind the judge's table tonight: Lil' C, Tyce DiOrio, Debbie Allen, Adam Shankman, Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe.

Time for the judges' favourite performances. Lil' C picked the Hip-Hop routine from the "Meet The Top 20" show with Russell, Kevin & Legacy, choreographed by Napoleon & Tabitha.

Adam picked the Ellenore & Jakob Jazz, performed to "Tore My Heart" by OONA & Dave Tweedie, choreographed by Sonya Tayeh.

Nigel picked the Tap routine from the "Meet The Top 20" episode, performed to "Take The "A" Train" by Ella Fitzgerald, choreographed by Derick K. Grant.

Mary being the rebel that she is, chose to allow Ashleigh & Ryan to dance a new routine choreographed by them. They performed a Jive to "Straight To... Number One". OK, they're a married ballroom couple and they can choose to do one routine on the show and they choose a Jive? Why not do a sexy Latin routine?

Leona Lewis then performed her song, "I See You" from the movie "Avatar".

Next, guest performers, a dance crew called Groovaloos performed.

Nigel picked the Contemporary routine from last night, performed by Kathryn & Jakob, choreographed by Desmond and Dwight.

Tyce picked next and he chose the Bollywood routine, performed by Mollee & Nathan, choreographed by Nakul Dev Mahajan.

Some weird things happening right now. First Cat's mic dies so someone comes up to give her a hand-held mic. Then, she asks the dancers to come out for the first elimination and it looks like Russell hurt his knee. Ryan is helping Russell limp out onto the stage. Russell is crying and they are asking him to hang on for a second while they do the results before they get him medical attention. SO awkward.

First eliminated contestant is Ryan. He talked about being able to do this with his wife or something like that.

Adam Lambert was the next guest.

Then, they showed a video package of a summary of the season.

Next, another elimination. Coming in 5th is... Ashleigh. She thanked God for giving her a second chance to dance on the show.

Adam then picked the Contemporary routine performed by Ellenore & Legacy, choreographed by Travis Wall.

Debbie then picked the Afro Jazz routine performed by Noelle & Russell, choreographed by Sean Cheesman. As you know, Russell has been injured so they just showed the original routine.

Another elimination. Coming in 4th is... Ellenore. I didn't catch what she said. She said it was hard to put into words.

Next, Lil' C chose the Contemporary group routine from the "Meet The Top 20" episode with Ariana, Channing, Nathan & Jakob, choreographed by Tyce DiOrio.

Mary picked the Hip-Hop routine from last night, performed by Kathryn & Russell, choreographed by Napoleon & Tabitha. Again, because Russell is injured, they showed the routine from last night.

Next, Mary J. Blige performed.

Nigel picked to see the group routine from the "Meet The Top 20" episode, choreographed by Wade & Amanda Robson.

Another elimination. Coming in 3rd is... Kathryn. I think she said she was blessed to be able to dance on the show and share her dancing with everybody.

Next, Jennifer Lopez performed a song. She started the performance lying on a bed shaped like a shoe.

It's time. After a kagillion votes, routines, injuries... America's favorite dancer is... Russell. Congratulations, Russell!

i thought the results show was crappy. they routines they picked were okay (but some were good) and they left out some of the most amazing. russell didnt seem to hurt when he won jumping around like that. and then it seemed weird while he was talking. i loved russell and was happy for him. i just think the whole night was weird and didnt match up to previous finales. plus kathryn should have been in second not jakob

I really did not enjoy this season. I don't like the new stage...I feel as if there is disconnect from the dancers with the audience (when watching it from home at least, maybe it's different if you're actually there in the audience), not as intimate as the regular format? Not sure about top 6 for a finale...did they do this because they are cramped for time? Not that impressed with the dancers either. I think this will be one of those seasons most people will forgot about (in my opinion!). I hope they put the show on hiatus for a few months and go back to their regular schedule. No need for two seasons in one year - its dance overload!

This was the worst finale ever. I really did not like the way the winner behaved in the end. I mean it could be adrenaline but he really did not appear hurt there. And I could do without him going all gangsta on the audience after appearing so charming and gentlemanly all season long. I really thought that Kathryn received the kiss of death after Nigel and Adam overhyped her performances that's why she came in 3rd. Jakob is probably akin to Adam Lambert on AI this year: Infinitely more talented than the winner but not voted for because of perceived sexual(?) ambiguity IMO.

lol. So you recommend a different banner concept? It might start to get busy looking if I also add the UK winner.

First a big congratulations to Russell in winning the season 6
and all congratulations to the rest of top 10 who have made it this far.
This season for me was a bit of a disappointment.
The dancers were very talented but they seemed to lacked the spark of past
seasons. Season 5 I have to say was totally boss than of Season 6,
The performances were good but they were not memorable.Sorry
Season 5 was better.
